More to come on this, but for the time being;

KEYNOTE #1 Paul Curtis www.newtechfoundation.org

Some short, quick notes from Paul’s commentary to his slides;

  • Problem-based learning vs doing projects ….
  • The project is the curriculum!
  • Externalise the “enemy”
  • Make it like a football game – have “spectators” to assess the completed project.
  • Technology tools are valuable but …..when used for authentic assessment they support 21st century classroom pedagogies.
  • Grade by course vs grade by skills ….create a gradebook that records performance in desireable skills.
  • Project briefcase ….replace the textbook as the organisational tool (SharePoint)
  • Teachers must be curriculum developers
  • Calendar used to outline course details…daily
  • Without 1:1 teachers slide back to traditional ways
  • Levers for change …… how can I create an environment in which teachers can do???
