OK, OK I’ve been spoiled! I was used to all students having their own computers…….and yes, I took it for granted. Now after a 12 month break from the classroom and a new role, in a new school, I’m going back to an entirely different environment. And I’m a bit lost!
My Year 9 science class is time-tabled into a room with a "Pod" of 28 Tablet PCs, three times/cycle (8 periods in total). For 3 periods, I’m not in a Science Lab and I have to join the queue with other teachers in booking a Pod. Another two periods I’m in a Science Lab but with no access. So for 5/8 of my teaching time I can’t always know, for sure, when I’ll have computer access and when I won’t.
My answer to this is to prepare for both eventualities….which means writing two weekly programs ……or is there another way.
I know from reading of the frustrations elsewhere that I am still probably well off in terms of access to technology tools. However, this does not ease my pain.

is there no system of booking the pods?
looks to me like you have found the challenge to your thinking for this year ….
how do we maintain the enthusiasm of teachers for wanting to integrate technology into their programming when there is such intermittent guarantee that they will have appropriate access?
